Οι ξενόγλωσσες δημοσιεύσεις αποτελούν ένα από τα κύρια στοιχεία του βιογραφικού ενός επιστήμονα. Οι χειρουργοί, λόγω αντικειμένου, οφείλουν να δημοσιεύουν κυρίως κλινικές μελέτες αφού αυτές επιτρέπουν και την ανάλυση του κλινικού τους έργου. Φυσικά και οι δημοσιεύσεις υπόκεινται σε αξιολόγηση. Για παράδειγμα, η παρουσίαση ενός “ενδιαφέροντος περιστατικού” λίγη αξία έχει μπροστά σε μια καλά οργανωμένη κλινική μελέτη. Δείκτης της ποιότητας των δημοσιεύσεων είναι φυσικά το κύρος του περιοδικού που κάνει δεκτή την εργασία αλλά και ο αριθμός των «αναφορών – citations» δηλαδή πόσες φορές άλλοι ερευνητές χρησιμοποίησαν μια μελέτη στη βιβλιογραφία τους.
Τα επιστημονικά περιοδικά έχουν ένα μέτρο ποιότητας αρκετά αντικειμενικό που ονομάζεται “impact factor”. Άλλος σημαντικός δείκτης ποιότητας μιας μελέτης είναι οι “βιβλιογραφικές αναφορές”, δηλαδή, πόσες φορές κάποιος άλλος μελετητής αναφέρει στη βιβλιογραφία τη μελέτη σου.
Στο χάος της σύγχρονης επιστημονικής βιβλιογραφίας η ποσότητα κυριαρχεί και η ποιότητα αναζητείται.
Ο κος Στάμου έχει εκπονήσει ή συμμετάσχει σε περισσότερες από 30 ξενόγλωσσες μελέτες που δημοσιεύθηκαν σε  peer-reviewed  περιοδικά με μέσο όρο impact factor >2.3 ενώ συνολικά έχει πάνω από 850 βιβλιογραφικές αναφορές (citations) με h-index: 15.
